Another Day, Another Colour

Another Day, Another Colour

Did you know that in Thailand each day of the week is associated with a particular colour? We think this is a good idea but Mondays would be blue and Fridays yellow in our book.

In Thai tradition, there is an astrological rule based on Hindu mythology that assigns one particular colour to each day of the week. The colour assigned is based on the colour of the God who protects that particular day. For example, the God of Sunday is Surya which is red. These colours of the day are also the the traditional Thai birthday colours. The day of the week on which you were born denotes your lucky colour for life.

The colours of the week are listed below:
Monday = Yellow
Tuesday = Pink
Wednesday = Green
Thursday = Orange
Friday = Blue
Saturday = Purple
Sunday = Red

Lanterns in South Korea Celebrating Buddha’s Birthday

Lanterns in South Korea Celebrating Buddha's Birthday

Last month was Buddha’s birthday. No records remain but experts think he was born 25 centuries ago. Buddha’s Birthday is celebrated across Asia with colourful parades and processions with floats of white elephants and flowers. Miniature figures of the baby Buddha pointing up and down are placed in bowls, and washed with sweet tea.

The lighting of a lotus-shaped lantern in Buddhism traditionally symbolizes a display of religious devotion to perform good deeds and lighting up the dark parts of the world that are filled with agony.

Don’t the lanterns look beautiful>
